What will METRO do to help mitigate impacts and assist businesses during construction?
METRO recognizes that successful businesses along the alignment are necessary for successful ridership. Mitigation measures are not "one-size-fits-all" and their implementation depends on case-by-case evaluations. However, METRO is committed to implement creative solutions, such as:
- Construction could be conducted in a segmented fashion (rather than on long stretches of a street at once) to shorten the time streets are blocked;
- When possible, contractors can pre-engineer and pre-fabricate portions off-site and then install them at a time when it would cause less disruption;
- Contractors can stage the work in less disruptive ways;
- Appropriate signage can be provided to the businesses along the alignment;
- Communication can be improved so business owners are aware of what to expect ahead of time;
- Contractors can pave and maintain temporary driveways and walkways;
- METRO will pursue non-traditional ways to help promote businesses and ensure their financial viability during construction.
