North Corridor preferred alignment selected

METRO BOARD SELECTS ROUTE ON NORTH CORRIDOR

Today, METRO's Board of Directors selected a preferred route for the North Corridor, allowing this portion of the METRO Solutions Phase 2 Implementation Plan to move to the final stages of the environmental work and final design.  Upon reviewing staff recommendations and hearing from residents along the corridor, the board voted to approve the route on North Main to Boundary, to Fulton, to Northline Mall (see map).

Community representatives who spoke today urged board members to take action sooner than later.  METRO has been meeting with multiple community groups since 2001, and just concluded the 45-day comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).

Comments heard today echoed many others at the Public Hearing last August 5, where METRO received comments on the DEIS.  With this board action, METRO may advance work toward the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) as well as final design.

Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2007.
