|
Description The Uptown Light Rail Corridor extends from the Northwest Transit Center at 610 and I-10 to just south of US 59. At this point the alignment will intersect with the University Corridor which travels in an east/west direction along Westpark. A station located at this juncture will provide transfer opportunities. At least six strategically placed stations will be located on Post Oak Boulevard, with the first situated north of Richmond Ave., and the northernmost being situated adjacent to the Uptown Park Shopping District. An additional station will be placed on N. Post Oak Road, which will serve The Forum, Houston's First Baptist Church, Memorial Park, and other neighboring businesses and residents. Project plans are being coordinated between the Uptown District and METRO, and pre-construction activities are planned to begin in 2009. As a project partner with METRO, the Uptown District will implement roadway and infrastructure improvements. Then, METRO will build the rail line and stations. The Uptown District is offering enhanced station design concepts, and with their contributions METRO will construct the upgraded stations throughout the alignment. This partnership will produce other benefits for the Uptown/Galleria area and patrons of the light rail. A "green guideway" is being planned, along with exceptional landscaping and esthetic finishing touches.
