About University Corridor

Description

The University Corridor extends approximately 10 miles east from the Hillcroft Transit Center to the vicinity of the University of Houston (UH) - Central Campus or the Eastwood Transit Center.  The corridor is divided into two segments: the west segment, which extends from the Hillcroft Transit Center to the east towards the existing Wheeler Station on Main Street (approximately six miles); and the east segment, which extends from the existing Wheeler Station on Main Street to the east towards the UH-Central Campus or the Eastwood Transit Center (approximately four miles).

Funding / Budget

The University Corridor is proposed as a federally funded project.  Approximately half of the total cost of the project is expected to be paid with Federal funds.

Preliminary cost estimates range from $700 to $850 million, depending on the final alternative selected.  The project cost will be further refined as METRO proceedes with final design.

Projected Ridership

METRO's Board of Directors is expected to select a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) in the summer of 2007.  Ridership projections are pending the final selection of a route in this corridor.
