MAYOR, METRO OFFICIALS INAUGURATE FIRST CORRIDOR OFFICE |
In an era when instant communication is no longer an option but an expectation, large-scale construction projects must be more responsive than ever. METRO Solutions Corridor Offices will be to residents and businesses around construction what the electronic navigation system is to today's driver.
City of Houston Mayor Bill White, METRO Chairman David Wolff, and several elected officials symbolically cut the ribbon to the first of several Office Corridors -one for each corridor where a light rail expansion line will be built. "Now, with this facility," said Mayor White, "the citizens will have the chance -as they had in numerous meetings- to have continuous input in the process."
"When you construct a major public works project like this there is disruption to peoples' daily lives," said Chairman Wolff. "We are committed to minimizing that disruption. We want to be transparent and accountable, so it's very important to have this office here and show you our commitment today," Wolff said.
The Southeast Corridor Office, located in the Palm Center (5330 Griggs) is a one-stop shop for all sorts of construction information:
-
Construction schedule
-
Maps
-
Utility interruptions/resumptions
-
Paving
-
Detours / alternate routes
-
Small/Disadvantaged business program
Other elected officials present at the ceremony today include Congress Member Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis and City of Houston Council Member Sue Lovell.
